Somebody New is a CD of jazz standards and the first of many to come from the Stratford based Barbara Fulton. The music is as much about the arrangements and the musicians as it is about the startling agility of Barbara Fultons voice. There are some fine jazz musicians here who should be mentioned:
The Musicians:
Matt Brubeck, Cello: Matt received his Master's degree in cello performance from the Yale School of Music and has toured with the Dixie Chicks, Cheryl Crow and the Indigo Girls. He is the youngest and tallest son of the famous pianist, Dave Brubeck. Dave Campion, Drums: Dave plays in such diverse ensembles as Tafelmusik and the Celtic group Shaggy Haggis as well as being the percussionist for the Stratford Festival orchestra. Earl Filsinger, Guitar: As well as being a player adept in all styles of music, Earl arranges and produces CD’s for a wide variety of artists. He has toured with Rompin’ Ronnie Hawkins. Ian Harper, Clarinet: Ian studied Jazz arranging and composition at Humber College. He plays flute, piccolo, alto and bass flutes, soprano, alto, tenor baritone and bass saxophones, clarinet, bass clarinet, pennywhistles and Irish Flute as well as Highland pipes and is a member of the Stratford Festival Orchestra.
Kevin Muir, Bass: In addition to being a much sought after session player, Kevin is the bass player for the Stratford Festival orchestra. Ray Podhornik,Trumpet: Ray is rated one of the top three trumpet players in Canada and is in high demand for movie scores and commercial work. Ted Quinlan, Guitar: Ted is the head of the guitar department at Humber College’s highly regarded music program. As a busy sideman, Ted has performed with Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris, Jimmy Smith and Joey DeFrancesco. Paul Shilton Arranger/Producer/Piano: Paul has a music degree from Queen’s University and stays busy as a player, teacher and composer at the Stratford Festival, as well as partner to the fabulous Barbara Fulton.

With thanks:
The CD was recorded at the Swamp Studio in the wilds of rural Stratford. The principal engineer was the incredible Jay Riehl with the able assistance of Ryan Tuer and Dave Kalmusky. We can’t thank Jay and the boys enough for making it such a relaxed and professional experience.
